The Ponte Vecchio, Firenze is the oldest bridge in Florence, and was until 1218 the only bridge across the Arno. In 1345 the bridge was rebuilt after flooding – and since has managed to withstand both the Germans and another flood in 1966. The bridge is lined with shops including many jewelers –Cellini, a 16th century goldsmith is honored on the Ponte with a bust.
