Built as a palace for Cardinal Federico Borromeo in 1609 and named for Saint Ambrose, the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana in Milan contains one of the most important libraries in Italy as well as a significant art gallery. The gallery contains works by Italian master artists such as Raphael, Leonardo and Caravaggio.
