The Museum of Sinopie
Piazza del Duomo
Recommended - Museums & Galleries.
A sinopia is the sketch made for a fresco before the painting is actually created, kind of like a blue print for the masterpieces that grace the walls and ceilings of many of Pisa’s churches and palaces. Sketches were first done on a coat of plaster using reddish brown dirt from Sinope. The sinopias were found underground at the Camposanto.
