The Carnival of Venice is an annual festival, held in Venice, Italy. The Carnival starts 40 days before easter and ends on Shrove Tuesday the day before Ash Wednesday. Carnival's source is the Middle Ages. In 109, the festival is mentioned in the Charter of the Duke of Venice and Vitale Pallière. He apparently first appeared in the 10th century, and he founded, "organized" and became official in the Renaissance. The carnival returned to operate after a long absence during the twentieth century, and it exists in its present form since 1979. Today, the carnival attracts a large crowd coming from all over the world attend the festivities each year.
